Diagnostics services that evaluate heart murmurs, abnormal rhythms or cardiac causes of exercise intolerance including:
Echocardiography
- Non-invasive, extensive ultrasound of the heart
- Can determine the cause of a murmur, differentiating benign/physiologic murmurs from pathologic ones
- Evaluates structure, chamber size and all heart valves
- Can determine risk factors for horse and rider safety
Resting ECG
- Electrocardiogram is a non-invasive way to evaluate the electrical activity of the heart to determine if an arrhythmia such as atrial fibrillation is present at rest
- Can differentiate benign rhythms from abnormal rhythms that may contribute to exercise intolerance, collapse or even sudden death
Exercising ECG
- A non-invasive radiotelemetry devise (Televet™) that records the ECG while the horse is exercising or ridden in real time
- Can detect arrythmias not apparent at rest but that could equally impact performance or safety of the horse and rider
24-hour ECG
- A portable, non-invasive device worn (either Holter Monitor or Televet™) by the horse for extended periods to time (such as a 24-hour period )to detect arrhythmias that may not be continuously present (such as APCs, VPCs or paradoxical atrial fibrillation)
