Lower Airway Diagnostics
- Transtracheal wash (TTW)- Percutaneous TTW to collect sterile samples for cytology and culture to diagnose bronchopneumonia and other infectious diseases of the lower airway
- Bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL) – To collect lower airway samples for diagnosis of Equine Asthma Like Syndrome, Equine Inflammatory Airway Disease and Equine Exercise Induced Pulmonary Hemorrhage
- Thoracocentesis – Ultrasound guided collection of pleural effusion for diagnosis and characterization of pleuritis or pleural pneumonia
- Above diagnostics may be used in combination with thoracic ultrasound
Abdominocentesis
- Ultrasound guided, collection of peritoneal fluid for comprehensive colic evaluation, diagnosis of peritonitis or in other cases of GI disease when warranted
Biopsies
- Endoscopic guided gastric/duodenal mucosal biopsies
- Rectal mucosal biopsies – for diagnostic evaluation for suspected inflammatory bowel disease
- Ultrasound Guided Tru-Cut liver biopsies
- Muscle biopsies – for diagnosis of myopathies including Polysaccharide Storage Myopathy (PSSM), Vitamin E Myopathy, Myofibril Myopathy (MFM) or Immune Mediated Myopathy
CSF Collection
- Part of the diagnostic evaluation for equine neurologic conditions & necessary for an accurate diagnosis of Equine Protozoal Myeloencephalitis (EPM)
